Default Which states have the top high school football talent per capita?

    From Reddit's College Football Subreddit(r/cfb)

I did a study to find out which states have the most high school football talent (as defined by recruiting star ratings) per capita. I thought this would be interesting for a handful or reasons; first, just to see where the most talent can be found, second, to see which states get the most with the least talent, and vice versa, and third, to see which states's talent doesn't match conventional wisdom about their level of high school football talent.

To do this, I went onto the 247 individual state rankings, and totaled up how many total stars that state has from players within the composite top 1,000. I.e. if a state has 3 players within the top 1,000, one 5 star, two 4 stars, and three 3 stars, then that state's "talent score" was 5+(4 times 2)+(3 times 3)=22. From there, I divided their talent score by their population in millions, to get per capital talent. So lets say the hypothetical state alluded to above had a population of 11 million, their talent score would be 22/11=2.

So without further ado, here are the rankings, with the number associated with each state being their talent score per capita (talent score/population in millions):
.Mississippi: 39.87
.Georgia: 32.79
.Alabama: 29.13
.Louisiana: 24.76
.Florida: 21.74
.Hawaii: 20.31
.Tennessee: 17.12
.North Carolina: 15.19
.Texas: 14.78
.Ohio: 13.64
.Missouri: 13.25
.Maryland: 12.06
.Michigan: 8.93
.California: 8.85
.Virginia: 8.74
.Iowa: 8.58
.Arkansas: 8.32
.West Virginia: 8.26
.Oklahoma: 8.14
.Arizona: 7.98
.Kentucky: 7.86
.Utah: 7.41
.Nebraska: 7.29
.Connecticut: 6.97
.New Jersey: 6.77
.Indiana: 6.60
.Nevada: 5.34
.Illinois: 5.23
.Kansas: 4.81
.South Carolina: 4.77
.Pennsylvania: 4.29
.Colorado: 3.92
.Rhode Island: 3.77
.South Dakota: 3.45
.Delaware: 3.12
.Washington: 2.70
.Wisconsin: 2.07
.Oregon: 1.69
.Minnesota: 1.43
.Massachusetts: 1.31
.New York: 0.65

-50. Alaska, Idaho, Maine, Montana, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Vermont, and Wyoming all did not have a top 1,000 player.

The top 5 of raw talent score were: Florida, Texas, California, Georgia, and Ohio.

Per captia is interesting for bragging rights at the high school level. But doesn't factor in for recruiting at . Not really surprised to see the top 5. Be interesting to see those by position. I would guess California is higher on QBs. Georgia is higher on RBs and QB's as well. Seems like Ohio puts out some big lineman.
