Anyone finding chanterelles yet? I haven't looked yet. Probably still too early in the upstate though I have read that the 1st week of June occasionally is the start.

Usually it's another 2 or 3 weeks from now before I find them here.

I found one this afternoon and in a few spots I found dozens of pins still under the leaves.

By next weekend that place should be full of them.

I miss the summer shrooms of the east and southeast. I need to figure out the burn morels out here and figure out where to find the king boletes. That chant makes me hungry!

All those pins under the leaves dried up. We need more rain. I checked on Friday the 9th and found only one, again.

Maybe this weekend it'll get going. I'm looking forward to some venison burgers grilled with sauteed chanterelles on them.

Yep on the chants. Found a huge young cow right out the doors of a local church last week. Torn between picking or letting it get bigger and taking the chance someone else has an eye on it also.

I don't think foraging is a huge thing here, so you probably don't have to worry about someone else grabbing it.

Went to another one of my top chanterelle spots yesterday. Found only 3 but did find a few areas near drainages that have little to no leaf cover and are full of pins. My guess is that is going on underneath a lot of leaf covered areas as well and after the downpour we are getting this week, that area should be full of them.

Also pulled a tick off my neck that had latched on. Be careful and check for those disgusting things.

Dangit man! What area of the state? I've got a couple spots that can yield a haul like that but nothing much as of yet. I'm hoping the rain this week kicks things off.

My chanterelle hole hasn't popped yet, but I have a couple of weeks, looking to past years for that spot. This rain should help. I've got an old bottom here at the house that I built up on, that I've been working with different spores.. so not so wild

Soaked 5g in lemon juice for 15 mins and then tossed them in my mouth. They did the trick.

If my spots aren't absolutely loaded with chanterelles after all this rain then I just give up for the Summer. Maybe it'll lead me to some new woods to explore but I'd imagine that by the weekend some areas of the upstate should have gold poking up through the leaves all over the forest.

Had a bit of time to kill last night. One of my usual spots still wasn't ready, so I ventured into new woods. I knew they had to be somewhere after all the rain.

This new spot I found had areas where several dozen about 1/4" thick were popping up. In a week it'll be great in there.

Made everyone omelets this morning with sauteed chanterelles and parmigiano cheese in the middle. Excellent stuff.
