Not a thing wrong with keeping trout to eat. Not a thing wrong with trying to carve out a fraction of a tail water fishery for a C&R only either. Catching a rainbow or brown trout anywhere else in SC started out the same way as there, they were all stocked. Some streams that proved to have reproduction got further restriction. Catch and release may not be the answer but I could only see where it would benefit the entire public due to the access. The studies quoted here imply low numbers of hold over trout but little mention is made of harvest impact. Those pictures of electroshocked trout on the SCDNR page sure do look to be healthy trout. No denying that. I'd say if you don't get a catch and release on as little as a mile stretch of the lower Saluda then fat chance getting one anywhere in SC. Kept my share of stocked trout for years, bait fished aplenty. Make fun of the high pinky whippy rod waivers all you want but they generally have way less impact on the resource.

Lawmakers know better than the biologists. Made the catch and release section even larger than had been proposed by SCDNR.

Catch and release only from I-20 down to Stacey's Ledge beginning July 1.

Of coures they did. High pinky whippy rod wavers did not like kayakers putting in at radio road and fising the area above I26

Common sense is not a gift. It's a punishment because you have to deal with everyone else who doesn't have it.
