    Default Red Drum

There is a subcommittee meeting in ag today on reducing the limit of red drum from 3 to 2 per person and to 6 per boat.

What is the reasoning behind this? Scientific, personal, political?

They should put the slot size back at the biologist recommended range of 14"-27". A narrow slot means more fish caught and released to get a limit of keepers. Release mortality goes up.

What is the subcommittee appetite for delegating the responsibility to the professional staff at the DNR?

Some people who fish believe they are seeing less fish in the breeding size. They know a senator and a house member.

Also heard certain guides from the states of northern aggression are keeping too many fish for their clients.

Reasoning could be because of the harsh temps. I heard the fish kill was estimated at 75%

If that is the case, why punish the residents of sc? Heck, what's the deal with redfish and trout worries anyway? DNR stocks them like freshwater trout all the time.

In view of the fish kill potential (which likely won't be known for a bit yet), I'm not really against this in principle. This kind of stuff can be adjusted as needed, but it's harder to recover once you get well behind.

If you are listening to guides you are listening to the wrong people. Just because there are not as many fish on their flats is not reason enough. Most fish have simply moved up the rivers some. Flats get hammered by pressure daily.. and flipper.

I'd rather catch a trout. Channel bass are like carp, they seem to be pretty popular in pictures though

The guides I know say numbers are down. They would also go catch and release on bass but that's what puts food on their tables.

Most inshore guides already push release. They don’t want to clean fish.
