    Default Beaver Pond Leveler

Not the best time of year to do it....but it's going to get done in the next couple weeks.

This is going to be used on the main dam of a 10ac beaver pond

Anybody built off the Clemson plans?

Any additional or substitute materials you would recommend?

Any dimensions, diameters, etc you would change on the plans?

Best place to get all the supplies not running all over town? How about this Pipe Etc sponsor?

I built it last year. I believe same specs, except I didn't use the 160 PSI grade roll pipe. That shit was expensive.

YoungBuck - thanks for the info on the pipe.

    Best place to get materials?

    Estimated cost once complete?

I believe Lowes trip was 100$. A friend of mine works at a plastic fab shop in the upstate. He gave me the pipes, reducer, extra coupling for adding length, cap, and elbow to make the 'riser'. He may be able to contribute to your project also, if you're willing to cover cost of materials. PM me if needed.

You should've killed that beaver when you had the chance.

I needed a test subject... He died soon after. That said, the plan is coexistence, with population control. They maintain the dam, and cut down scrub trees for me.

Seems like a fair trade to me.

Impressive. I like having the elbow to control water level

Got her set in place this weekend....everything was working as expected.

Didn't quite build it to specs....left out the internal hoop structure on the intake portion and doubled up on the wire, went with sewage pipe, felt strong, we'll see how it goes.

I have about $120 into the project.

Youngbuck - any update on your leveler? I'm having issues with the beavers pushing mud up around the intake cage and stopping it up. I'm thinking a bigger cage/fenced off area, but curious to hear your thoughts?

Bumping this back up. Welltaut, how has the 6" pipe fared draining 10 acres?

It can’t keep up....too much rain and too many beavers, 6” isn’t near enough this year or last. About to thin them out and see if it makes a difference....just got my traps unpacked tonight.

Thanks for the response. I'm about to start on a beaver pond project an was wondering how small of a pipe I could get away with. I think 10" will be fine since I'm near the head of the floodplain to this branch, but bigger is better, and better safe than sorry I reckon.

Year late with my response... I was searching for riser boards and came across this thread. I did build a fence around mine. Diamond shape with hog panel and tpost. (I get high flow from up stream)The beavers still pile mud around it but it takes a lot more effort to fully stop the flow. I try to go shovel out around them once a month or so. They eventually give up and move down the creek.

I also gave up on the welded wire around the pipe. It rust out too quickly or collapses. I now do one layer of chain link. If it gets clogged with grass it's pretty easy to rake it off.
