Dug out some of Grandma’s old cast iron yesterday. I’m bout to throw out all that “non stick” bullshit I’ve been wasting money on....

    Yessir.

Get you a fire barrel going and get started. That stuff will look brand new by lunch time tomorrow.

Self cleaning oven for a couple hours will have them looking bare bones brand new. Saves a lot of scrubbing on the rust but makes a mess.

I use my hand-me-down cast iron a lot.

My Dad gave me a bunch of Griswold cast iron pans for Christmas last year. I haven’t used any of my other ones (stainless or non stick) since then. Stuff is awesome.

I'm moving to all cast iron when we get the new house done ... I'm jealous, I'll have to buy all new except for one pan I've had for years.

Most of this stuff is Griswold. I don't think I'm gonna have to go back to bare metal on any of them except the one with all the rust and maybe one other that has some stuff stuck to it. Thoughts?

Depends on how much gunk is built up and how even the cooking surface is. You probably don't need it on any but the rusty one. Plus you'd be erasing history. I'd wash with soap, wipe 'em down with oil, and bake em to get a fresh coat of seasoning on them

I bumped across this company a few weeks ago...

    Good looking stuff.

You can by a lodge for half of what these cost and grind them down yourself and the quality is just as good I'm sure.

Soak it for a day or two in white vinegar and hit it with a wire wheel or steel wool then re season.

I cook in cast iron skillet or Dutch oven just about every night, the only thing I don’t cook in it though is eggs. I personally think a nonstick is better for eggs.

Funny you mention that, I saw that somewhere, (think it may have popped up on FB), and that's what got me to thinking about digging all that stuff out.

It did indeed look like top notch stuff. I think it's made in Charleston

Oh it's artisanal as hell and priced to trap hipsters and hippies alike. Go get a lodge and grind that mother. Axe Simple. He knows what's up.

You can find some good deals on EBay as well. A lot of it needs to be cleaned and seasoned again.
