Default Any Flies, Nymphs or Streamers Using Barred Feathers?

Can anyone think of any dry flies, nymphs or streamers commonly used in the SE for trout (primarily) that would or could use barred Wood Duck feathers?

I've save some from the last duck one of my old dogs retrieved and am thinking I'd like to have some flies made from them, but can't think of any specific patterns that use them. But then I'm no expert fly fisherman, either.

Any fly tiers here who can suggest some uses for them?

    Thanks.

Plenty. Find a good fly tying manual and go from there. I had a bunch and gave them away several years ago or I would send them to you. I am sure someone around here has one lying around that they would not mind parting with.

A whole pile of patterns can use Wood Duck as legs/wings/tails. I used to tie a hare's ear type nymph that used wood duck flank as legs that was hell on grayling.

Thanks, JAB, but I don't tie flies and don't presently have the time to get started.

I have a guy who is/was going to tie some for me, but he claims that he doesn't know of any patterns that use the barred WD feathers except for some streamers for salmon. I'm thinking he's missing some and want to either find someone else to tie them (at a cost, of course), or at least tell him what patterns to look at.

    Interesting Mobetter.

    Thanks.

Ask him to tie Light Cahills for you in sizes 12-16. This is a classic Catskills type dry fly. Woodduck flank feathers are used for the wings. These will be useful in the Southern Apps from late April into June.

Thanks, Two Barrels. I'll start making a list.

Dang, Spur, I envy your talents. I guess I spent too much of my life working on corporate business. Time to catch up.

    Great post.

    Thanks.

Theoretically I already fly fish, but since it's been so long since any of my gear has seen water it would be presumptuous of me to say I'm a fly fisherman.

I will target March and see if I can break the logjam.

    Hey Spur,

The photo you posted of your creation is gone. Can you post that recipe? That was a good looking fly. What material did you use for the body? It looked like you used peacock herl for the thorax.

Fixed you up with a PM. Good luck when you go fishing again.
