Drinking while dove hunting

Best shooting I ever did on a dove hunt I was hammer drunk. I killed 15 for 24 shells. Other than that I've never drank while hunting.

I'll fire up a small bowl when I take my first limit to the truck. Helps me stay focused.

Is that ok or am I gonna be looked down on by the teetotalers?

Nothing for me until after the guns are cased. Even then I don't drink much. Usually too dehydrated after a day baking in the sun.

Oddly enough, if you travel to Europe or South America, drinking a glass of wine or 2 is very common, even during competitions. Different culture.

Now, I'm not sure if I can trust a man who's never drank rock-n-rye or port in a duck blind. About 6-7 years ago we had a heck of a river shoot on Christmas afternoon, pulled up to the landing with 18 ducks and an empty bottle of port and RnR all on the same strap. When the Warden asked “what’s this!” I told him, we killed those too! Was glad he just laughed.

I almost always drink while I shoot doves. I'll not drink while I'm in the field if the field owner tells me not to but I won't have as much fun either.

It is ok to drink, shoot guns, and ride atvs.....but never more than two at the same time.

To be completely honest, if someone is so bad at handling a gun that they can't still do so safely after a couple of beers, then they shouldn't ever touch one in the first place. I wouldn't ever get hammered drunk in a dove field or let anyone hammered drunk enter the dove field, but if you can't handle yourself like an adult you shouldn't drink or shoot guns anyway.
