My year last year was filled with missed opportunities, mistakes on my part and finally a 1500 yard track on a deer that lasted 8 hours never to be recovered. This year unfortunately felt like it was going to be the same as I pulled up to an open gate on Tuesday morning, followed by cutting a chain at 5 am with a hacksaw due to some careless locking of locks on said gate. Work has been crazy and I finally got out on time Thursday evening. Finalky made it to the stand around 7 and it was a pretty uneventful night until 8:10. I had two Boone and Crocket coons feeding and I was just watching them with the binos as one got startled. I saw a glimpse of brown and figured a doe was coming in to feed. Man was I wrong. He stepped out behind the tree with his head down among some palm bushes. I could see part of a rack and just kept watching until he picked his head up one time. I immediately grabbed the gun and got on him. I tried to wait a few minutes for him to turn broadside, but that lasted about 30 seconds. Took a .308 to the base of the neck and dropped right there.
