Who is the Tom Hughes of Columbia now that he is retired?
I need someone that will work on a motor that is older than most. He would work on my motor even though it was well beyond his stated age cut off limit for outboards.

Thought the guy in the building across from Mid Carolina was taking over a lot of his stuff.
Curtis Dowd...semi retired now but still tinkering with them a few days a week. I have 2 really old outboards for a wooden bought I restored from the 40's. He rebuilt the engine where others would just laugh

I am going to bump this back up to the top. Does anyone have another suggestion?
Curtis was pretty much an asshole........told me he had the ability to fix it, has the parts to fix it but did not feel like “wasting his time”. Really nice guy.....
Anyone else in the Midlands?
is this for the Bond boat? I'll be waiting for you to pull up on the beach, or a lunch date across the street. I've only got one place to work on boats now that Tom is gone, Action in Lugoff did a good job on the Seaark. But they were backed up even then.
I’ve always had good service from Gene’s Marine in Lexington.

Yes......the issue is that most people hear what year the boat and motor are and immediately say no. They assume it’s some clapped out piece of crap that has not been maintained and then they proceed to tell me that without really listening to anything else.
Great, I’ll call them now.
Bill Porter at Southeastern marine in Chapin will work on older boats. 803-345-6064
He does trustworthy work

Gene is good people!
Post a picture of the boat, I want to see it.
Just passed by Gene’s. I bet they were 50+ boats needing work at his place.
Post up some pictures. What do you need done to it?

Macs Marine in Chapin. He and Tom were very good friends. They are damn good but don't be in a rush. They are busy as hell.

I am not sure what I need done to it.......I know it will not currently run. Historically, it runs like a champ and always has. I realize it's a Chrysler Motor which turns a ton of people off (if you can't tell by my post), but the fact that this was my wife's Grandfathers boat bought new in 71' and then repowered with this motor in 78' makes me want to find someone that will fix what I have. I restored the boat to what you see in the below pictures a number of years ago.
It ran a little rough the last time I had it out and would basically not idle well or start well. Once running, you could drive it all day as long as you did not pull the throttle back. That was a year or so ago and now it will not start at all, but turns over fine. That's all I know.
Here she is, it's a 1971 Sidewinder Super Sport. Made in Paleo Alto, California in the seventies. There are about 100 similar hulls out there like Baja, Tahiti, Glasstron, Etc.......everyone splashed something similar.
Beautiful boat I guarantee you Macs will work on it.
