Just got back in from poling my new boat up the river back to the boat landing. I've never had a pull start 25 yamaha. Ran it at the house before I left, Then when I got to the landing I choked it again not sure if I flooded it or not. It ran about three miles down the river, Then bogged out. Poled up the river for awhile, Then tried it again. It started up, And every time I put it into drive it bogged out. Any suggestions?

Sounds like the high speed jets are gummed if it's bogging under a load...

Also could be the high / low speed stator (spelling?). A small coil under the top pulley, usually the boat will run fine while out of the water and idle fine in the water but once you put pressure on the prop it bogs out. Easy fix, if I can replace it anybody can, just need a pulley puller and a few small metric wrenches.

Is the vent on your gas-tank open? New motor shouldn't have carb probs unless it has set up for a while or has trash in the tank.
Honey...I'll do it after the season is over.

Senator, I had the same problem w/my 25 Mercury last year.

It was water in the fuel.

Take the cowl off and inspect the contents of the cup that screws to the bottom of the carburetor. If it has water in it (you can plainly see it), you'll know your problem. I was getting water in the fuel by accidentally leaving the vent open on the gas tank.

With a new motor, I'd be willing to bet it's either this or trash in the fuel tank - assuming the vent is open to begin with.

A water separating filter kit can be had for about $45.

And if aint none of that make sure, especially if you got one of them red plastic gas tanks, that you dont have a crack in your fitting, line of pick up in the tank where it can pull air. That can cause the same headaches you're having.
