BTW this thread has got off topic ( I guess to due to me)

Ducktail, seriously you would have to know the differences in a 2 and a 4 stroke engine. YES they are both rated the same hp but boy what a difference. One that stands out without getting "technical" on torque, rpm's, intake, exhaust, compression, or power strokes is WEIGHT

K the yammy 4's won't run as fast as the 2's at least not in a 40 horse application.

KRT, I would expect that you would know the difference in the two. A lot better than I do. I just would like to know why there is a difference which BSD points out above. All things being the same (ie boat, prop, etc) why will a two stroke out perform a 4 as BSD points out?

Ducktail I want BSD to explain that, I thought that you were ganging up on me.

I know why a 2 stroke will out perform but I bet you BSD is buying time so he can ask someone then explain

I ain't the mechanic i just know, i'm guessin they'll turn more rpms and better throttle response but like i said i ain't no true mechanic. But i would guess something like less moving parts or so? K give us some insight...

Let's see, here is BSD's post:

So in other words, BSD don't know jackshit, or have one miniscule idea about that which he is talking, and is just wasting bandwith to read his own uninformed post.

KRT, BSD is a gang all of his own. If I needed backup, I would call him.

now let me think back to my auto tech days in high school, two strokes are quicker because they only have half the strokes 4 strokes do being an intake and an exhaust stroke for a 2 stroke application vs. a intake then compression then combustion then an exhaust stroke in a 4 stroke. and being if i'm wrong i'm sure k will be the first to point it out!

No BSD, you are right. We are all always right here.

If you have two forties, one a 2 stroke and one a four, and they are both the same brand and the same prop on the same boat with the same person running the boat, which boat will have a faster top end? I know the two stroke is faster out of the hole and uses more gas and weighs less, but which is running the fastest at top end? WHY? Do two strokes have a higher top end rpm for their forty horses?
