    Default flipping a boat

Back in January my buddy bought a 17' flat bottom Carolina Skiff. We knew it needed some work but it did not look to bad. As we have been redoing the boat we have found that the bottom needs some glass work. We tried picking the boat up and doing it but we can not get to all that needs to be done that way. So we have figured out the only way to get it right is to flip it and work the glass that way. So my question is, what is the best way to go about flipping it? We have been through Youtube but all the videos are about flipping aluminium boats. We need to figure out a way to do it with out breaking the lip on the side of the boat. We just finished repairing that.

So, what says the brain trust.

You need 2 A frames and 2 chain falls. But a strap through bow eye and attach to chain fall. Put a large eye bolt through one of the motor bolt holes. Run strap through and hook to chain fall. Put a rope through each stern eye. Raise boat to half the width. Push down on one side to start rotating then pull with rope on top stern eye as that stern eye gets near top. The lower gunnel should be just off the ground. As the hull starts to rotate, pull on bottom rope to complete flip. Lower to ground. Same process to flip back.

This is kinda what i was thinking about, My question is if the bow eye can handle the weight that wll be on it. I know most of the weight is in the back but i dont want to rip the bow out.

He builds boats for a living. I'd say his advice is as solid as one can get
Seeing these soulless vanilla ice lookin Yankees on a bassboat is worse than watching a woman get her implants taken out. It's just wrong. Get back in your Lund and go back to infisherman.

It should hold it. That's also another reason why you want the gunnel close to the ground when flipping. But the main reason is just resting the gunnel on the ground will aid in the flipping. Once it sets and it starts to angle, just lower the chain fall and it will lay right down. Flipping it a complete 180 in mid air is bout impossible. You can also set some 2X4s on the ground so the gunnel will slide as the other side comes down. This is how we used to flip every deck in the old days. I'll try to get a pics of how we do it now.

Tim Smith would build a jig. And just spin the boat with 4 fingers...

A Carolina skiff flip would consist of (3) tires and (3) friends. Drag off trailer and flip .

let me also specify that it is a high sided skiff with a really thin gunwale.

Years ago, I still laugh about you texting me, wrong Ralph... It was a boat question. I had no clue why I was being asked. Inside -- I was all like I guess because I have a couple boats and I can fish... maybe my internet persona can do things real me cant, like fabbing sorts of boatwork ..--- I ended up telling you to drill a hole in the boat I think. Which around then you realized that you got the wrong Ralph.

BB cringes at the thought of drilling a hole in his boat.
