[Rock & Rye]

The Avatar is the picture just below a users username. To get one you first have to have a minimum of 20 posts, or in other words have lost your "Mullet" status

Then click on "my profile" at the top right of the forum. In the center top part of profile you will see

» View/Update Profile «

After selecting this scroll down to about the middle of the information and you will see a field named

Avatar Image:

and a link to the side of the box

Select a different Avatar Image

.

At this point you may select one of the pre-added avatars by scrolling through them and clicking on it. It will appear in the box. Click the

Select this Avatar

button. The box will disappear and you will be back at your profile. IMPORTANT:::: You MUST click update profile at the bottom of your profile for the change to take effect. Then you simply need to post once or twice if it does not change immediately.

For a custom, ie. non supplied Avatar, that is a picture already on the web, simply follow the above intstructions but instead of selecting an avatar. You paste the URL or web address of the picture in the

Use Custom URL:

box in the avatar window. Then click

Set Url

and end with instructions above.

If you have a personal picture or one not off the web you would like to use. You are welcome to send it to my by email to rockinrye@scducks.com. I wish I could change everyones each week but cannot, so make sure you are willing to live with that avatar for awhile when you send.

Also note the avatars are 64x60 pixels in size, so if you can resize a pic you may want to try it first as some do not turn out well after resizing.

For modem users, I have not tried this, in theory you can speed up the loading of posts, by disabling avatars in your profile. Again I have not tried this but in theory it might save you loading 50-100k.
