    Default Onboard charger

I just installed a 36v trolling motor on my boat and want to also install an onboard charger to simplify charging the batteries. Optimally, I would get a 4 bank charger and hook the starting battery up as well. However, we all like to save a buck when possible. I can get (2) 2 bank chargers for less than the 4 bank charger. Is there any reason why I couldn't go this route? Both banks from one charger would charge 2 of the 3 trolling motor batteries. One bank of the second charger would charge the remaining trolling motor battery and the other bank would charge the starting battery.

Can anyone explain why this wouldn't work?

As long as you hook each individual bank to each battery individually it will work fine. You just have 2 extension cords to plug in for charging instead of one.

Not sure I would do that running 36 volts on tm. Unless you unhook the 3rd battery from the cycle each time.

I have a 36V trolling motor and went with a 3 bank charger. For my cranking battery, I just pull it out a couple of times during the year to charge.

It would work but mounting two chargers in the rear compartment will probably be too much. Just spend the extra bucks and get it right from the start.

More important than # of banks is the amp output of each bank. The 3 bank might be 36 amps = 12 amps per bank and the 2 bank could be 20 amps = 10 amps per bank. These are just hypothetical numbers but just make sure you are comparing apples to apples.

Just happened to have this behind my desk. Zoom in for comparison between models.

Get one that shares amps. Not all do that.
