I agree with you HOWEVER, as members we have legitimate concerns even though I do not see anyway it could happen as a richochet

I do have a wife that is now VERY uncomfortable with going shooting UNTIL she finds out what happened however she is like anyone else that has been there and can not see how it happened UNLESS it was an accidental discharge .

Lady that works with my wife was telling her young lady that lost her life has grandfather at their small church, all she could say was the entire family desperately needs prayers right now so that is all we can do

Like any bad accident I hope others learn from this and how quick something can happen

i had a ricochet hit me in the leg 20 years ago at an indoor range in charleston. someone fired a 50 cal and hit the hanger just right. i was 6 bays down from them. barely broke the skin and burnt for a second.reckon it lost most of its energy before it made it to me. i picked the chunk of lead up and carried it to the counter. range was shut down after that for a few hours.

Any indoor range that allowed a .50 cal without having an isolated bay for it should have been shut down.

Take a look at a satellite view of the Skip J Range and you'll see that each shooting bay is surrounded on three sides by 8'-12' earthen berms.

Hopefully an explanation will be available for people to learn from in the not too distant future.

I used to work part time at an indoor range. We had sand burms as the backstop. The sand had to be cleaned/sifted every month or two. As shoot into sand lead builds up quickly, almost like a magnet to each other. You should have seen some of the chunks of lead we pulled out of there. No doubt in my mind that there could/can be ricochets from sand burms. I've never been to the range in question. I'm just giving my opinion on what I know.

Sure is sad story but at least there is a silver lining in this dark cloud
