    Default .223 deer bullet

Factory loads. What should I try?

Only have iron sights on the gun. Will be less than 100 yds. Shoulder shots? Thanks

I used a core lok I think. Shoot them in the neck, less to worry about.

Seeing these soulless vanilla ice lookin Yankees on a bassboat is worse than watching a woman get her implants taken out. It's just wrong. Get back in your Lund and go back to infisherman.

My son's handi rifle doesn't like anything heaver than about 64 grns. My AR will shoot anything. We have killed deer and hogs dead with the fusion and Winchester's "big game" lead heads. I like cheap shit that kills and shoots good in said gun. Heavier the better.

If I were going to hunt deer with an AR, I'd use the 75 grain Speer Gold Dot rounds that my 1:7 rifled AR shot ~ 1 MOA. Too bad I lost that gun awhile back.

The only problem I see with neck shots are that if you're not real good you can really mess up the most tender roast on the deer.

    Otherwise, have at it!

So I guess we've moved the goal post and now a .243 is now way within the limits of ethical ultralight hunting?

Why do you want to shoot a deer with a .223?

.243 has always been WAY inside those limits, friend...

308 and it's family of cartridges (243, 260, 7mm08) are all plenty enough power to kill "a deer". Proper bullet selection and shot placement are necessary for any cartridge.

I understand that. My go-to rifle for years has been a 6mm Rem. Previous threads on here did not get unanimous agreement on 243 though. Now we're discussing 55-75 grain bullets and nobody wants to throw down the ethics question.

Deer can be killed with a 22LR but that doesn't make it a deer cartridge.

I've killed them with 60gr V-Max too. Shot placement counts.
