Upstate Rut?

At my places in Gwood, I see pre rut and killable bucks (cruising) up until Halloween.

After that all the scrapes leaf over and its dang hard to see a buck in November.

Now my place in Edgefield is different and we have killed very nice bucks the first 2 weeks of November

Strong pre-rut activity in Laurens county. I've seen 4 good bucks cruising/responding to calling the past two sits. 2 of them got to ride in the truck.

I dedicate most of my time off for hunting "the rut" between October 26th-November 8th. 80 percent of my big deer have been killed between October 28th-November 3rd.

I think they are chasing, just saw two dead bucks on the shoulder of the road about 15 miles apart. One was a 4 point and the other looked to be 6 or better. I couldn't stop and look as traffic was heavy but they looked real fresh

And I'm still seeing spotted fawns. Latest I've ever seen them with spots still on them.

Back in the day, my dad and uncle were pretty good deer killers.
They always told me, "Look, a deer ain't gotta go to work, Walmart, or their kids soccer games. All they have to do is eat, sleep, survive, and reproduce. The best time to be up a tree is any time you can be up a tree".

I've seen bucks following does around from early October to late November.

Don't wait on the "perfect week/dates", hunts as much as you can all season and it will pay off.

Not really looking to see if the rut has started. Just intrigued to see what everyone's different experiences are within a couple county area. It would be interesting to do some research on deer fetuses in the Abbeville, Greenwood, Laurens, Newberry Area. It wouldn't be hard. If you don't mind taking out fetuses from does you shoot and can read a measuring board.

I saw 2 twins last week with spots. No chasing as of yet, as I had two bucks together yesterday just strolling. This is in 96

This deer seems to have a swollen neck, can't really get a age from him, taken last week.

Bucks are already, grabbin them by the pussy, and will continue to do so until January.

Between oct 15 to dec 20 i usually see chasing every other sit. December 5-15 has always been the most deadliest days to arrow a big buck chasing for me. Anderson county

No I consistently hunt through out the season and this is been the time when I find the bigger deer on camera and moving during daylight hours. As everyone else has said our "rut" is so spread out it's hard to lock down a specific time. I have never killed a mature deer before October 26th. May just be my luck on that aspect. I have just seen the best movement during this time frame.

Rut is between October 1st and thanksgiving. Everything is chasing now but it seems if you catch one mid to late November chasing its usually a hoss.

My 3 biggest have all been September bucks. That being said, I don't think a piece of ass had anything to do with it. Lack of pressure had everything to do with it. We have a "hard antler" rut with numerous peaks and valleys. Certain tracts with different deer densities and management practices will have different observations. I think the best time to kill a true giant is late in November on a cold ass morning. He's trolling, looking for that one last doe. He's out of his mind and in my opinion will let his guard down now more so than any other time of the year.

Agreed, most people I know around here have the best of luck in October. Thats when we see the most "rut" activity

Bucks are ready in late september, does aint. Thats why more big bucks are seen in early to mid october because they are cruising more. Early November, more does are ready so less big bucks are seen becuase they aint gotta go very far to find a piece

For instance, anyone who says "my buddy killed a big one and he was cruising, not chasing" would be immediately erased from view. anyone else who says "I killed my biggest deer on some certain date so that is the best day to hunt for the rest of my life"--instantly erased. or if someone says "you will see less rutting activity in a certain month or week"--erase.

I guess I am one of those retards that needs to be filtered then, because in my hunting vocabulary, I use cruising and chasing differently. To me, a buck is cruising when he is out actively looking for a doe who is ready to be bred. They may be cruising looking for does when there are no does in the area that are ready. Chasing, to me, is when a buck is actively on the trail, pushing a doe that is ready, or nearly ready to be bred. Am I completely off base here?
