    Default 2006 Chevy 1500 question

Do any of you have a 2006 Chevy 1500? I purchased a rough country 1.5 - 2.5 leveling kit. I'm trying to figure out what size tires I can get away with without having to trim anything. I have heard some people say 285 is all I can get and then I have heard 305 and even 315. I'll be keeping the stock rim.

I'm assuming it's 4x4, if so you have torsion bars. With factory wheels you can fit 285s or 305s easily which equal a 32.5-33inch tire. You can also fit a 295 which is on the small side of a 34 inch tire no problem. When you go to 315s which is a 34 inch tire you may lightly scrub the outside bottom edge of your front bumper. With aftermarket high offset wheels you will rub more than that. I would personally run a 295 tire, it's a not too small but not too big size.

    Edit: 315s are 34.5-35"

33-12.5 would look good as well as 295/70 or 285/75 assuming you have 17 inch wheels and you shouldn't have to trim any. You'll have to trim with 35s and your transmission will hate you if you have stock 3.42 or 3.73 gears. I've got 285/75/16 (about the same as 285/70/17) and they look alittle narrow to me.

Don't crank your torsion keys any higher than 2 inches or you'll risk putting to much stress on the front end.

285's are about 32.8 inches and they will fit nicely without rubbing. I just did this kit on a 2005 and he made sure he didn't want any rubbing and wanted to be level. You can crank the keys and get a 305 under it but why?

And as Steelin said, you'd be surprised what I've made fit under a Chevrolet before.

I'm between 285 and 295. Alittle scrubbing wouldn't bother me but if I can prevent it then that's what I would prefer and that's why I don't think I want to get into the 3's.

I have 295's on my 04 with just keys and no rubbing on factory rims.

I had 295 Toyo MT on my old 2004. Had the rough country kit with the keys, small block and new shocks all around. It just scrubbed some at full wheel turn.

That is what I have really been looking for was a picture. There are some on line but I can't find any with exactly what I ordered. Sounds like you ordered the same kit I did though but a bigger tire.

I ended up ordering 285/17 BFG KO2's today.

You should like the ko2, I've got 41,000 on my bfg ko's and they have got probably 70% tread left.

Don't crank too far and you won't have anything to worry about. You can probably get 1 1/2 inches out of your stock keys and still have a decent ride without putting much stress on the front end. Crank the stock keys and throw on a set of 285s and it will look and ride good.

A lot of the guys that are breaking front end parts are cranking ford keys to the max and the upper control arms are riding the droop stops. I have 296,000 miles on my truck with about 2 inches of crank and have only replaced one ball joint. Don't beat on the truck and it will be fine. I'm no mechanic so take this with a grain of salt.

I am running 295's on my '06 with keys and blocks without any issues.
