Citizens interested in providing comments to a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plan to manage hydrilla in J. Strom Thurmond Lake through the use of grass-eating carp and herbicides can do so at a public workshop to be held at McCormick High School on May 16, 2016. The purpose of the hydrilla control plan is to reduce bald eagles deaths occurring due to "avian vacuolar myelinopathy." Hydrilla causes AVM in water fowl which pass it on as eagles eat the dying water birds
