    Default EasyGPS for waypoints

I have been manually entering waypoints into EasyGPS for 3 days now. 195 of them to be exact and when I loaded it into my Elite7 Chirp unit, they were way off. So I thought the numbers must be bad, so I did some cross checking and they are correct. I then imported them into google earth and they are off again. When I compare the lat/lon in easyGPS with the cross reference, they match up.

Does anyone know how the waypoints get off? They are miles off. The file format is .gpx.
I take an PLB in the shower with me. Can't ever be too safe.

What are you working with? I mean I don't want to sound smart, but straight decimals, or are you going into minutes, seconds, and such?

Thats the queen of Nassau wreck in the keys. I can cross check the numbers with google earth b/c it shows the wreck in google earth but when I import the .gpx file, it puts my waypoint 26 mi to the SE.

    Same with my Elite7 unit.

    Right.

DD MM SS is common as are DD MM.mmm and DD.ddddddd

Most GPS units (Garmin anyway) use DD MM.mmm as default.

Maybe check the datum (wgs84, NAD83, etc). Make sure the easyGPS is set the same as whatever source your pulling the coordinates from.

Thanks Rubberhead, you explained it better than I did. That would be my first thought.

Yup. Did this with my humminbird. Had to manually switch my humminbird to read the format in which I imported the coordinates.

not sure I follow you. When I open the .gpx file in notepad and search for that wreck, the cord. are correct.

How would you format that one for example?

On a HDS you can change the datum if you go to settings>system>datum

And I know nothing about easyGPS but I googled changing the datum and came up with this link: http://www.easygps.com/help/dlg-my-c...te-formats.asp

And for what it's worth I don't know that the datum is your issue but I do know that on arcGIS if you don't have the datum set the same for your points and the map it will throw things off by hundreds of miles.

I don't disagree but when I look at the file, the cord. are correct. I'll get it figured out, one way or another.

Figured it out. I had to add a different coordinate format to easyGPS. When I did the import into GoogleMaps, it was dead on the money. Now I get to edit 200 waypoints

    Thanks for everyone's help!!
