I'm about to pour some 1 oz bucktails. Does anyone have a go to color scheme? I really have little to no experience with Cobia.

Everyone I've fished for casting were out at reefs, they're not that smart. I've caught them on rebels, dark looking plastic eels, all sorts of stuff honestly.

you need bigger- I usually use a 3 oz for casting and at least 8 oz jigging- white with a big red eye and a white grub trailer has always produced for me.

You also need a big 3 legged cricket.

most of my casting is around channel bouys or to fish cruising on the surface

Just fling a piece of cut bait at them with no weight.

Twitch it to get them excited....sort of pull it away from em when they lazily swim toward it. Eventually they will eat it.

Think of them the same way you would a catfish...but they taste better

Get you a good chum slick going. Have a livewell full of menhaden. When fish surface start throwing menhaden out the livewell at them to get um feisty. Free line live menhaden out.

Make sure you start with some really strong hooks.

After you catch them, call me and I'll meet to take the trash fish off of your hands. Save you the trouble of cleaning them.

Put you a large pinfish or a 6 or 7 inch croaker under a large float and toss that bad boy near a buoy and sit tight
