This post is dedicated to a man and family's best friend. Only us dog lovers can truly understand this situation.

In honor of the fine memories of Justice (JP I had actually just logged out of SC Ducks with the intention to not sign back in for sometime.)

I just realized my screwy email had the pics you sent me halfway down the list, which was not when it was recd'
    anyway

I will now take a swig and pray for justice, she was a pretty black female and looks alot like my dog Banjo's gradmother...anwyay

    Man's best friend Justice

JP there are many versions of this going around and I have seen many of them posted here for fellow dog owners...all of them make me tear up..

Here is one I found and sent to a friend who lost his Boykin just a few weeks ago.

    Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I can't wait to meet Drake and Woodie to cross the bridge.

JP...sorry to hear about Justice. She is a beautiful dog.

Do you know if she had "Dickendall" as part of her lineage?
If you don't know me how could I offend you?

If you are not a member of Delta or DU then you are living on duck welfare.

Candor, I'm not sure. Both of her parents were from Alabama, near Dothan. She was a gift from my brother and his wife to my wife, so I didn't trace her lineage. She was a really special dog though, always wanted to please us. Funny thing, our 2-1/2 year old lab would try and get into the trash can. He was successful for a couple of times. After Justice saw us cleaning up his mess and that we were angry about it, she would run him away from the trash can after that.

JP - my thoughts are with you and your family also.

Reading what was posted here I think that it is interesting to note that my dog was out of Alabama also. She came from one hell of a stud somewhere north and her mother was in Alabama. Picked her up on a road trip one summer. I called the breeder this morning, Sammy Shoemaker, and he just recently got out of the business. Seems the real world work was to demanding.

    JP,

Sorry to hear about Justice. She sure was a pretty Lab.

Here's a little message for you and your family...

    Message From the Rainbow Bridge

    To my dearest family,
some things I'd like to say.
But first of all, to let you know,
    that I arrived okay.

I'm writing this from the Bridge.
Here I dwell with God above.
Here there's no more tears of sadness.
    Here is just eternal love.

    Please do not be unhappy
just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I am with you
    every morning, noon and night.

That day I had to leave you
when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me
and He said, "I welcome you.

It's good to have you back again,
you were missed while you were gone.
    As for your dearest family,
    They'll be here later on."

God gave me a list of things,
that he wished for me to do.
    And foremost on the list,
was to watch and care for you.

And when you lie in bed at night
the day's chores put to flight,
God and I are closest to you...
in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth,
    and all those loving years,
    because you are only human,
they are bound to bring you tears.

But do not be afraid to cry:
    it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers,
    unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you
    all that God has planned.
If I were to tell you,
    you wouldn't understand.

But one thing is for certain,
though my life on earth is o'er.
    I'm closer to you now,
    than I ever was before.

There are rocky roads ahead of you
    and many hills to climb;
But together we can do it
by taking one day at a time.

    It was always my philosophy
    and I'd like it for you too;
That as you give unto the world,
the world will give to you.

    If you can help somebody
    who's in sorrow and pain;
Then you can say to God at night...
"My day was not in vain."

    And now I am contented...
    that my life was worthwhile.
    Knowing as I passed along
    I made somebody smile.

God says: "If you meet somebody
    who is sad and feeling low;
Just lend a hand to pick him up,
as on your way you go.

When you're walking down the street
    with me on your mind;
    I'm walking in your footsteps
    only half a step behind."

"And when it's time for you to go...
from that body to be free.
    Remember you're not going...
    you're coming here to me."

JP, she was certainly a good looking black even at that old age. I bet she was a knockout when she was young and solid. They just don't stay with us long enough.

You need to go out and get another pup, like Rock said before that's the best way to grieve.

You can never replace Justice, but the joy of having a high energy, hand licking, tail wagging pup around, chewing up good shoes and getting into everything they aren't supposed to really does make it easier to get over your loss!
