    Default cell phone data usage

no, i'm not using the search function.

So, I have almost used 1GB this month and, although it doesnt cost much, I am now over my monthly max with a week left before it resets.

I dont use my phone. I dont hardly make 5 calls a week. I text sporadically. I havent taken a selfie or another pic in days.

What is using my data? My wife and I are on the same bill, but do we share that GB of data storage? She is on her phone constantly, FWIW.

Would deleting old pictures that I dont care about or old text strings matter? In other words, what the hell am I "storing" to even come CLOSE to using my allotted data each month? I know 1GB isnt much to a teenager, but I am not a big cell phone user and dont understand all this crap.

your pics and texts aren't using your data.... deleting them wont help. you should be able to go to your mobile data, select and see what apps are using different amounts of data. GPS on does zap some data

If your wife has a newer iPhone its probably wifi assist

Edit: You should be able to call your service provider and they can tell you how many GB each phone uses to narrow it down.

I would start off by trying to figure out if it's you or your wife using the data. If you only have 1GB for the plan, then she may be using that data since you do not use your phone frequently. With Verizon, you can dial #data and it will send you a text telling you how much data has been used on your account. It will also tell you how much of the usage was from your device. I'm sure other providers have something similar. This can be viewed online as well.

First world problems! Get a flip phone, and you wont have to worry about those problems.

Check your apps and make sure one does not run continuously while not in use.

i have a iphone 5, i think. She has the same one. We have Sprint.

i rarely, if ever, use the internet on my phone.

I listen to pandora once a weekend, maybe, for an hour.

I think its obvious we share data?

Leave your wifi on while in the office or at the house. That will cut the majority of it out.

No such unlimited data with Verizon I believe other carriers have it now to compete with them. Pretty much everything is unlimited talk and text.

If you do not use your maps on the phone cut the location services (gps) off.

Some apps/programs on the phone continue to stream data when not in use. One way to stop this is by "double clicking" the main button on your i-phone. This will show you all the different pages and apps that you have running. To end them, swipe up the screen. Just ask your kids they can show you!
