I can agree. I hunt a plantation with friends that has a field called the Widgeon field from back in the day when they were so plentiful. Overall, regardless of the species the habitat of the lakes plays such a big role in duck numbers it's got to be a critical focal point. Along with management of refuges and coastal regions. There are 3 major wintering grounds in South Carolina's lowcountry.
The Santee Cooper watershed, The Delta, and The ACE.
And all 3 are most certainly connected.
And widgeon are just like gadwalls in terms of dietary needs.
SAVs are more important to them than most think.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.
