I love finding those straight grains, but a knotty piece of fat lighter is a thing of beauty.

It would be hard for me to take a man claiming to be a survivalist serous if he says “fat wood”.

I usually come across some good ones during squirrel season, then the neighbor and I go back and snatch them up.

Untrue. I just helped a friend take two 120 foot pine trees out of his yard. They had been dead for about 1 year. Had a 21 year old kid up in the crown in climbing spikes. First he lopped off all the limbs, then dropped the trunks in 10 foot sections. I asked him how he learned to drop pines. He said his old man was too cheap to hire a service, and made him go up and take down the trees around their property. Now he's in college, and "cutting" in his spare time, and making serious bank. No overhead whatsoever. Anyway, both of those trees were solid fat from the ground up to 25 feet. I've got enough lighter now to last the rest of my life.

Tree rats didn’t move good this evening, too windy. Jake found some but I didn’t do my part to put them in the bag. Didn’t come back completely empty handed though

I'm sure that's a great dog, but the red rocket should be showing if he's a true outdoorsman standing over that fine piece.

I have turned a Trumpet Call from one of those fat lighter knots you find laying on the ground. Turned out very nice. Taste like Pinesol smells when you play it.

DC, you ought to stop by my place on your way through some day before I light my burn pile out front. There's probably quite a bit of lighter out there you might like to toss in your truck.

Yesterday this piece was laying in the middle of a trail on my hunting club, 3/4” thick and about 6” wide.
I’d almost be tempted to believe it was a rough cut board but there’s not an old building of any type within 1000yds of where I found it. But it was laying there, like a gift from above. Splits as straight and as pretty as anything you’ve ever seen and is absolutely saturated

Had a fat lighter stump in kept out by the wood pile and cut off what i needed when i started a fire. Wife kept throwing it on the the burn pile when we cleaned up the yard. i would take it off but it looks like it finally got burned. I dont thinks she ever knew what it was and why I kept it.
