In terms of ecology, I wonder what the population of raptors looks like today compared to 50 years ago? We know what the population of quail looks like compared to 50 years ago. Raptors are hell on quail and rabbits. They are definitely a piece of that puzzle. Hawks are cool but I see literally 50+ a day without trying and they are all hunting.

I'm Mr. Charles appreciates his name being blasted all over the web, but free info is free info I guess.

I doubt much will come of it.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

My real question is why are birds of prey protected like they are? They really don't have any predators to worry about. They are treated just like the wolf, an environmentalists love child.

They are protected because they don't breed as fast as prey animals do, and most are territorial so it's somewhat possible to wipe them out of an area for a period of time. Of course others will fill the gap before too long, but there will be a down time.
And also, if they weren't illegal to shoot, everyone would shoot them just to watch them fall.
We don't need folks shooting owls, eagles, herons, hawks, etc, just because they like to fire the gun.

    There's no point in it.

I agree, but FWIW the investigation was done several months ago, charges were just filed recently.

Is this the same property that got off for shooting too many hens with the receipt, showing they owned them?

Just disappointing that Falcon Hawkins is no longer with us to preside.
