Help...lol. I'm in Michigan doing a boil...I've been asked to put freshwater mussels in it...when do they go in?

I've never put them in, or had then in a boil...but apparently they are popular up here. It's 30 degrees or so, sleeting, and we're doing this.

If you've got mussels and shrimp, I'd get my potatoes in for about twenty minutes, corn in for about fifteen, sausage in for less than ten, mussels in for call it four minutes. As soon as you see the first mussel open, throw in the shrimp, count to 30, and pull the whole thing out of the water.

Tell them to go jump in the lake. Don't freakin do it. Boil shrimp and put a lot of ole bay and Texas Pete on them Whe they are done. Not a little but a lot. There is nothing worse than boring boiled shrimp. Thank me later

Thanks guys...just dropped the red taters. You would NOT believe how hard it is to find a good crab boil packet up here. Managed to find some Zatarains.

Ask the Yankees up there how they do it. We don't put that trash in our shrimp boils down here.

Taters and anything else beside corn, sausage, onion and shrimp is an insult to "FROGMORE STEW" and it's history. Damn them all!

    I'm proud of you Lab.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

Thanks, I don't ruin historical southern recipes with some Yankee added bullshit! If a person puts taters in a damn Frogmore stew they may as well throw in okra, ruttabagerz, squash and any other bullshit the mind can conceive..... and move the fuck out of the South!

I've thought about it and never done it. If I do it I'll pour some of the juice over the mussels in a large pan and simmer for the few minutes it'll take for them to open and serve them seperately.

Instead of crab boil or Zatarain's, I often use pickling spice with boiled shrimp.

Real Frogmore Stew doesn't have potatoes and it certainly doesn't have mussels. They don't have another pot for the mussels?

Hell no it don't have no fucking taters. Are you there to eat shrimp and sausage or some damn bullshit food you can eat anytime?
