    Default Serious Oyster Discussion

Yep. I'm gonna rag on some people in here today.

Clusters are the best. I don't mind working for oysters. I'll personally eat a half bushel. Maybe more. I like em when they're just opening up and juicy. I don't bother with crackers and hot sauce and all that other bullshit. I don't have time for that filler ritual garbage. Draft beer is best. So is a good towel and oyster knife - the blue handled ones are pretty good. You should stand at least three feet away from me for your own safety.

Clusters, good knife, rag (surgical towels), no saltine, I like them just before they pop open. If eating raw I like a small splash of Tobasco. If steamed a tad of cocktail if any.

Blue handle knives and a towel or leather glove are signs of someone that's been there done that. Normally have both but I pluck right out of the steamer a bit. It's an oyster roast for a reason, kids and women can eat all that other shit.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Selects, knife with a sharp edge-not those thick edges bullshit knives, cocktail sauce, towel, and plenty of natural light.

Oyster knife with a sharp edge and beer is a bad combination.

Also note that oysters are steamed best on sheet metal with wet burlap on top.

Fuck a towel. Carolina Oyster Knife, and some Famous Grouse. Texas Pete on occasion.

Use to go the cotton glove route until I stuck one of those shitty over-sharp knives in my palm. That was back in my drinkin' days though so that may have had something to do with it.

Bo, seriously? A "sharp" knife and cocktail sauce?

Someone post a link to an estrogen replacement forum so this chick can get some help.

Yeah bo....maybe you haven't been to many oyster roasts, but all oyster knives are not created equal. They make some with a thin "sharpe" edge that can easily be slid in between the shell. Then there are some with a thick edge that completely suck. I normally just bring my own knife when I eat oysters. It doesn't have a blue handle either....it's wood.

I can see clearly how cotton goes about opening an oyster that isn't popped on the end. He waits til no one is looking and he tossed it in the shell pile.

Clusters. Not those single piece things from the gulf coast. SC all the way. And I'm going to take whatever implement is available o get them open. Blue handle or not. Screw a cotton glove. Use a towel only if they are too hot from being oversteamed. And sauces and crackers slow down the intake process.

Teach your wife to open her own unless you really need to score points. I get tired of shoveling these out for other folks.
