    Default Windows 10 upgrade

    Anybody done it yet?

I bought this new laptop with Windows 8.1 and I'm hoping Windows 10 will be better.

I was in queue. I just checked -- IT'S AVAILABLE.

I'm about to click to do it.

Later folks, off to do the deed!

    32% complete.

8.1 wasn't too bad. Anxious to see what is unique to 10.

    Cortana sucks thus far.

    My mouse won't multi-finger scroll.

    Start button is more traditional.

    It was quick and painless.

I had signed up to reserve it, but then got the notice it was available. It said I could postpone it and I believed them, but they only offered a three day window. So I cancelled it because I wanted to wait a few months. MS confirmed my cancellation and I find it installed this morning because I left the laptop on last night to copy back up files to the new HDD. I don't have time to fuck with a new software right now, but guess I'll give it a try.

Unfortunately, their test program said I couldn't upgrade my desktop. If I can't, I'll again be stuck with multiple softwares.

For those of you who have Win 10, what do you think so far? Any issues yet?

    Thanks.

I hear W10 will find all of your hidden porn pics and add them to a screen saver. All you old perverts might want to consider that before upgrading.....

    actually it read like this

"Department’s policy is NOT to upgrade to Windows 10 on any company pc’s until further directed.
I am also advising everyone to wait to upgrade to Windows 10 on your personal pc’s.

Traditionally new operating systems have required a year before they are supported. I think most vendors will begin seriously looking at Windows 10 starting today, and should have solutions to most problems fixed within the next 90 to 120 days.

One of the tasks performed by the Windows 10 upgrade is to remove your antivirus software (which we just got installed).

Because most vendors were waiting on the final release of Windows 10 to update their own software, there are very few software vendors that are ready today. From experience, it has taken antivirus companies 30 days to much longer before they support new operating systems.

Along with antivirus programs, printers and other devices are often unsupported with new operating systems. You may be unable to print after upgrading.

So until/unless further advised, do not upgrade any company pc’s to Windows 10.

And again, I strongly advise you to wait on upgrading to Windows 10 on your personal pc’s at least until you are confident sure that all of your current programs, printers, devices, etc. will work on 10.

I will be testing Windows 10 and working with our new Office 365/Cloud providers and will inform you on when (and if) we will go to Windows 10.

    Best Regards,"

Well, mine upgraded last night around midnight. So far - better than Windows 8.1. Too early to tell much more.

Mine sucks on my top of the line Core i7 Lenovo Yoga 2.

Screen transitions used to be smooth and the computer always knew which way it was facing. Now, it gets confused and often locks up.

I'll have random screen flashes. Sometimes they quit after a few, sometimes I have to reboot.

I know it is driver issues, but I wish they'd hurry it up.

As far as the OS goes, seems more like 7, which isn't a bad thing. However, I was getting used to my 8.1.

LOL... I was afraid of that. Guess I'd better edit those folders first!

I was planning on waiting at least 6 months and that's why I cancelled this 'surprise' download notice... but they installed it anyway. The jerks...

I'm going to play with it tonight and tomorrow. Since I was just reinstalling Win7 and other software on the new HDD I won't lose more than a few days if I have to uninstall it, but it pisses me off just to have to mess with it.

Fuckin' assholes at MS... may the camel of paradise shit on their keyboards.

FWIW, I got an update earlier and things are running a bit more smoothly. My touchpad was also all outta whack, and I had to uninstall/reinstall some drivers to get it going again.

All in all, I think I may actually like it better once these minor bugs are worked out.

I like it especially that search engine thingamajiggy in the bottom corner. I've not messed with it but just a few minutes though.
