    Default Hamstring injury

Oldest son pulled it yesterday during football mini-camp? Doc said possibly slight tear and are holding him out of any leg work the rest of camp.

Question is- how long does something like this take to heal? Ball-park is all I am asking. He is walking this morning and both legs are tight, but what has been ya'll's experience?
Honey...I'll do it after the season is over.

Hamstring injuries can linger if not taken care of properly. He definitely doesn't want to push it and try and come back too soon. Could be a few weeks to a couple of months depending on the tear.

3-6 months. Pray that he hasn't had a severe tear.

Middle brother tore his and had to have surgery. Cadaver graft.

    Good luck!

Hamstring injuries almost always linger. Rest it til it's better then rest it some more. Better safe
Them that don't know him won't like him, and them that do sometimes won't know how to take him

He ain't wrong, he's just different, and his pride won't let him do things to make you think he's right

He will probably be fine in a week or so if its a slight pull...they certainly can linger and be more prone to reinjury if not healed when he goes back. Surgery is for extreme tears and pretty rare

Whatever the degree, make sure he stretches it and wears an ACE bandage from now on..

    What position does he play?

QB and Will LB primarily last year. This year we are hoping to keep him off the field while we are on defense.

My daughter had a similar injury from soccer this spring.

She was in a walking boot and 3/week PT for 2 months until she was released back to full duty.

JP, find him a physical therapist that deals with and understands athletes. Not one that reads a magazine mumbling "good job, you can do it" to fat people stacking cups.

    Mobility mobility mobility.

You have one in your area who is top notch. Look up Donnie Thompson at The Compound and Performance Therapy for Strength Athletes.

Once healthy get him on a stretching regiment! Also keep him hydrated, muscles don't enjoy a lack of water...

a walking boot for a hamstring injury? No wonder they revoked my medical license. I would have never thought of that...

Perhaps we were too trusting, but that is what the Dr. ordered. As I am not a Dr., we really had no reason to question his recommendation.

A quick google search shows several articles discussing a boot as a treatment method. Here is one such article comparing surgery to the boot: http://www.achieve-therapy.com/Injur...5/article.html

well that article talked about using the walking boot for achilles tendon tear. The achilles is a few miles south of the hamstring. Like, richmond virginia to charleston sc. They are both, however, located below the mason dixon line
