The 2015 APMC draft plan is up for comment.
Yet again we really need your help. From 2011-2014 the Santee Cooper lakes have lost nearly 17k acres of native vegetation due to overstocking triploid carp.
Hydrilla is at a historic low (the plan says 100ac, but the truth is they cannot find any IN the lakes) and still Santee Cooper and the APMC are pushing to stock 6400 fish into the system.
Please take the time to comment. Feel free to send your own, but please make sure that you state that you do not support any carp stockings for the next 5 years. Last year many comments that did not support the plan were posted IN support of the plan because they weren't definitive..... Below is a cut and paste email showing your support for native vegetation and your displeasure with how the lakes have been managed.
I am a resident of South Carolina and I utilize the Santee Cooper lakes.
Over the last 4 years, nearly 17k acres of native, beneficial vegetation have been destroyed by over stocking grass carp and over use of herbicidal treatment. That is unacceptable to me. I cannot support the 2015 draft plan nor any further stocking of carp until the 17k acres of SAV have been restored. A diverse SAV ecosystem is needed for all fish and wildlife.
The people of South Carolina have suffered through your mismanagement for quite long enough and it's time you start managing these lakes to the best of your ability to improve wildlife habitat on the largest, most diverse reservoirs in the state.

Thank you to those who have done so year in and year out. We can make a change guys. It just has to be a priority.
