Check this kid out, CJ Cummings from Beaufort.
The weightlifting website hookgrip.com posted a slow-motion video to its Facebook page of C.J. Cummings’ record-breaking clean and jerk last week at the USA Weightlifting Junior National Championships . And it’s mesmerizing.
The 14-year-old Cummings won gold medals for the snatch, clean and jerk and total lifts in his 69 kg weight class. He set the Youth American records for his clean and jerk (156 kg) and total (271 kg).
For his efforts, he earned the best male lifter award at the competition.
Cummings is the top-ranked American in his class and was selected with his brother, Omar, to the eight-person American team that travels to Peru in April to compete in the Youth World Championships.
