He's looking for advice on chokes and shells. He further explained that he is missing a lot, even at birds that are 20 yards. I don't care what you are shooting, at 20 yards any shell or choke will kill a duck.

You can ask 50 guys what to shoot and get 50 different answers. Fact is, they all kill ducks. But a lot of guys get hung up on chokes and shells. In reality, that is the most dependable part of the equation. The shooter is the weakest link with the highest degree of variability. Spend your time and money improving the shooter

The most important, and most often overlooked aspect that matters when it comes to killing ducks.

Delta in a nutshell: Breeding grounds + small wetlands + big blocks of grass cover + predator removal + nesting structures + enough money to do the job= plenty of ducks to keep everyone smiling!

The brand I chose was Winchester Drylocks.

    Went out yesterday.....

Within 10 minutes of daylight, had a hen wood duck come land right in the spread.....probably only 25 yards away......

Shot 3 times and missed.....she flew off.. [/QUOTE]

Winchester Drylocks....absolutely the worst shell on the market. No wonder you missed.

I know you weren't asking me but Fasteel or Winchester Xpert are about the only shells I've shot in many years. I agree with the Professor about Dryloks.

I haven't gotten Faststeel or Xperts to pattern good out of my 20ga. I like Federal red boxes (they do shoot dirty) or Remington Nitros.
