Default merc 25 4 stroke prop question

my dad busted up his prop today and wants me to order him a new one. his old prop doesnt have any markings on it. or more likely he cant read it if it is there. whats the average pitch prop for these motors?> im wanting to say 11 would be what he needs.

motor is a 25 four stroke and its on a welded 1448 and he usually has it pretty loaded down with everything but the kitchen sink when he goes fishing. not looking to race or anything. just a standard all around prop.

    aluminum
    10, 11, or 12 pitch?

    thanks.

    Default Prop

For what it's worth, I have a 1448 welded Tracker Grizzly with a 15 hp 4 stroke Mercury. Fully loaded with 2 men and hunting gear, a 9 pitch is too much. It will only do about 5000 rpm. With an 8" pitch it will turn 5500 rpm. Without knowing a lot about your setup, I would say get a 10" if you aren't worried about top end and normally are heavily loaded. If you want more speed and are lighter, an 11" might be a little faster, but slower with a load. If you haul more than 2 people, you probably need the 10".

Is there a number behind the thrust washer? Should be a model number.
