Default My Favorite Picture From Saturday...

We are privileged to have several instructors from the Deaf and Blind School that train with us. Coaching these guys has been a huge blessing because it forces you out of your comfort zone and makes you adjust your coaching and training style. Communication is key in what we do so we rely heavily on hand signals during the WODs. I don't know sign language but I'm learning now. Here I am giving the "3 seconds to go" signal to two of our deaf athletes. They maintain focus on the coach the entire time they are working. It's awesome.

That's really neat. It's amazing how they don't let those types of disabilities stop them from living a normal life.

Put some shoes on...this ain't Walmart.

I don't understand your fancy poetry...just put some shoes on before you get hook wormz.

    On a serious note...
Check out Erik Weihenmayer. I heard him speak several years ago. Absolutely one of the neatest guys I have ever met. He has accomplished more as a blind athlete, than most "normal" people would think of in a lifetime. As he said when I heard him speak...we all have our handicaps, some are just a bit more noticeable than others. You can use them as an excuse, or you can push past it and challenge yourself.

Our varsity football team plays them this fall. We only have 16 people and only 10 or so are football players; others are warm bodies. I am looking forward to it. From what I understand, they have a difficult time scheduling teams because of their player's disabilities. I would venture to say they will be the most disciplined team we play this year.
Honey...I'll do it after the season is over.

My high school basketball team played them at camp in Spartanburg every year. It's very difficult because they can't hear the whistle. It like playing freeze tag when the whistle blows. They also had some personal space type issues. Would literally just maul you at times.
Them that don't know him won't like him, and them that do sometimes won't know how to take him

He ain't wrong, he's just different, and his pride won't let him do things to make you think he's right

They don't put Championship rings on smooth hands

I played against them several times in basketball when I was 13 or 14, that was my experience as well. They played hard though, I remember my arms being scratched to hell by the end of the game.

    I had no idea.

Were they there when we were? If so, I never knew.
