    Default Pasture Spraying Question

I have roughly 25 acres of overgrown pasture that hasnt been bush hogged since about this time last year. Its a damn mess. I plan to plant it in pines this winter but need to start getting it squared away to be burned/planted, etc....

It is primarily old fescue and weeds, some gum trees mixed in. Will take me about 3-4 days to bush hog it. ground is rough with old cattle trails, some topography to deal with, etc... so bush hogging it is a pain in the ass.

Question - am planning to spray it with imazapyr at some point before too long. Would you go to the effort of bush hogging it first, or just go to spraying?

Dont want to have to spray it multiple times, but at the same time dont want to bush hog it if that isnt necessary.

    Thanks for any advice.

    Cut it.

    Spray it.

    Move on.

I'd wait 2 weeks before spraying it after I cut it.

You can wait 2 weeks if you want, but that shit will get picked up by the roots, too. So, foliage shouldn't be required.

    Yes, yes it is! LMAO

I'm with Catdaddy. Mow it, wait for it to put on some tender growth, hose it down.

    I'd burn it this fall.

imazapyr is foliar and soil active with uptake also through the stems.

waiting until September and adding in some oust extra give you more bang along with 45 or so days of post emergence into early spring.

I wouldn't mow, burn, or disc it before application. give the imazapyr 7-8 weeks after application and burn it.

only took me one round of bush hogging to realize that maintaining it wasnt a business i wanted to be in and trees were the way to go. i'll know next time - if there is one - when i buy a piece of property. Live and Learn.
