Default An Idiot Question about Verizon data usage

In the last six months or so my data usage has gone through the roof. I started out with about 5GB then went to 10 three months ago and now I just upped it again to 14GB.

My internet usage is about the same as always, I'm in my second year of a smart phone and usage is about the same, so what the FUCK is going on. I'm paying almost $200 a month for this shit!

I think the data is for my mobile hotspot/computer only, not sure though.

THIS.... Same thing my parents went through. Keep hot spot off when not in use. Also if you are connecting your phone to it when you get home make sure to kill all apps you have running.

I am having the same issues. I have so much turned off there is not really a good reason to keep the phone on.

For past few years on iphone 4 I was a heavy data user. Watched netflix while on break at work along with ton of web surfing. We only used about 3gb a month on my family plan while on unlimited. I kept a close eye on it since I knew I would end up having to give up unlimited or pay full price for a phone. Once we upgraded to a 6gb and 2 iPhone 5s's my data is getting gobbled up. I have not streamed a movie since we changed plans and yet I get constant alerts from Vzw about my data. I think it might be my iphone.

Newer phones are on faster internet so they will burn through data plans quicker. Pay attention to what you use. We have 6 devices using 3-4GB a month.

Just make sure you are closing all of your apps and keep your hot spot off at all time unless in use. I have an I5 and my wife has an I4. We share 3 gigs of data and barely touch 2 each month...and we use our phones a lot. I travel for a living and I stream Iheart radio and Pandora roughly 3-4 hours a day. Also, make sure when you are home or wherever possible, to connect to the available wifi so you not using your data. Also, if by chance you Face Time a lot, no matter if you are hooked to wifi or not, that will absolutely kill your data.

Also...phone GPS will kill your data as well. Turn off GPS services and only use your driving gps when needed.

This. I was having the same problem by leaving my browser open with multiple sites still on. I was using 75% of my data usage by half the month. Once I started closing my browsers it dropped drastically.

Laptops aren't optimized to minimize data use. It's hard to use that much data with a phone or mobile tablet unless you're listening to music or watching movies. If so, see post #2 in this thread.
