    Default WA 2014

Dragged Gutpile to the West again . Perfect weather with the exception of 30 mph wind the last day.

We had a great trip with the usual sightings of Mule deer, Whitetails, Elk. 3 Black bears and a couple bald eagles.

Timed it right and the Gobblers were responsive.
Paddle calls and Buice trumpets did the bulk of the work.

I killed a good bird at 15 yards the first morning. White tips, 9.5 inch beard and 1" spurs.

Will killed his later that morning- one of a pair that rolled up Gobbling and drumming like fools. 8" beard and .75 inch spurs.

We harassed birds unsuccessfully the remainder of the day until deciding it was time for food and Kokanee beer.

The next morning found is in place on the side of a gorgeous meadow with three birds hammering. I couldn't hear them from 200 yards due to the wind. Will was under the roost and after a few calls on a trumpet, they pitched down and Will tagged out at 0530.

We moved to another couple of set ups and I finally thought I heard one gobble. After a short walk, we heard some hens yelping. I cut on a Mannmade paddle and was immediately cut off. Looked down the hill and saw the back of his fan. When he turned to face me, he got the bad news.

Like a greedy bastard, I ran down and grabbed a leg. Big rookie error. He had a 1 3/8" hook. Great bird.

A mini bottle of 101 at 0730 to celebrate and a few photos. Will found a bonus 5 point elk shed as well.

The mountains are getting steeper. Looking forward to 2015!!

Beautiful pictures. Congrats on a successful trip Andy and Will!
I'm going to heaven for the weather and hell for the company.

Be dangerous, unpredictable, and make a whole lot of noise.
