nice, nitro. I am going for something a little less sedate but hopefully something he can hold onto for a while.

MC, et al---does anyone know of a good place to order said journal? I have seen a number of them but none seem geared to hunting and fishing.

How can blank pages in a book be geared toward anything?

Just get him a nice leather bound book with blank pages. Let him record what he wants.

Here's a link to about a thousand of 'em.

oldgobbler.com has a really good write up on preserving the spurs. they mention removing the cap of the spur also clean it of anything that could rot. There are also some threads about preserving the fan under the DIY catagory

We have to do it all for you don't we! http://www.hunterhillsjournal.com/TU..._JOURNALS.html

I have one very similar to this for deer that my parents gave me for Christmas the year I killed my first deer. It has my name on it and a little note from my folks. I filled it up and have since gone with one that has the blank pages like Glenn said and I keep deer and turkeys in the same journal.

I took all the old harvest cards that they used to give you at the check station and wrote a little bit about each turkey on the back of the card and stashed that in the journal.

It may do nothing more than make a solid thump in the bottom of a trash bag one day, but there are memories in there that I can't ever get back and don't want to ever forget.

so what's the best way to clean the spurs up if the skin has dried on them.

I would just cut off the feet to keep the spurs, dang near have a grocery bag full of turkey feet I never did anything with.
