    A large number, based on commentators and participant comments in the past, of the Sporting Dogs do in fact hunt and participate in various 'hunting dog games'.

    I've also known a couple of breeders who have been familiar with a number of Westminster show participants who claim the same.

    It would be nice if the AKC, which is pretty much just a political entity, would follow the rules used in Great Britain in that 'Bench Champions' must have at least a basic Field title in order to get their championship. Not sure about vice-versa.

    Our female American Water Spaniel, Bunny, was Best of Breed at Westminster in 2010. She's a hunting fool. She also has an Upland Hunter title, a Hunting Retriever title, a Senior Hunter title, and a Working Dog Excellent title. She is also a Therapy Dog International, visiting the hospital on a weekly basis.

    Totally agree. My wife and I have complained about that 'cobby' style for upwards of 20 years or more, but that's what the judges and AKC have continually allowed to be accepted. I personally doubt that many of those 'Champion Labs' could run 100 yards or swim that distance either. It's absurd.
