These birds are to blame for the decline in bait fish. That means less cats, stripers and bass.

There is always a direct proportion of predators to prey. I found very little bait when I worked the big water on lake Marion. I believe these birds are the primary reason.
Could it be because the baitfish dont have any cover, because we overstocked the grass carp, and the predators like the DCCC and the blue/flathead catfishes are wearing them out?

Also, despite a subsegment of the population's best efforts, the catfish is not a SC gamefish yet. Please dont put them in the same group as a striper and bass.

Saturday, the other boat with us shot one with something in its neck. Of course debate persisted so proof had to be provided. They cut out about a 5-6 inch shell cracker.

I equate this to democrats being democrats, we've let our politicians enable them to be what they are. Enabling = no cover. Cormorant season is all fine and well, but it's kinda like an open season on welfare recipients instead of fixing the root of the problem......

Thats what I been asking Feets. Stop um from mutiplying at the nest would be more effective in the long run. This is just gonna be a quick little fix.

Keep in mind, this is the beginning of a conservation effort. Other states will follow suit and modify the plan.

It may help in the long run.

Cormorants have a hard time getting through lush beds of vallisneria, coontail, and slender naiad.

    juvenile fishes don't.

Cormorants hunting in shallow vegetated areas stir up clouds of sediment, further impeding the effectiveness of them hunting together.

    But......bring on the band aids.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.
