    LOL. Got my dad one.

I have not plugged it in yet. I'm sure he'll summon me over before Sunday to help him out.

We have two Rokus and a Google TV thing.

    May still explore the chromecast.

I'll check out what you suggest.

Dad got one a couple weeks ago and then high tailed it back to the store to get another the next day. Pretty darn cool.

On one tv it turns the directv channel pink when you turn the chromecast off and change inputs...weird

(Plex, Roku/Chromecast) + (Sabnzbd, Sickbeard) = No more cable tv bill.

We've got one on the main TV to watch various movies off You-Tube and BBC TV, etc, and it's been great!

Now I need to learn about all these other options (without satellite) to get rid of cable.

Can someone tell me how this trumps satellite tv? Is there anyway of watching live sports with chrome cast? If it wasn't for not being able to watch live sports, I would have switched to roku along time ago.

Sounds like you know more about this than I do. I got the XBMC set up and can cast it onto the TV, but there's a lag. I have it set to low def (480), and have closed all other tabs and I still can't get it to keep up. I know it's not the internet b/c when streaming I have no problems on the computer end.

    Ideas?

I'm not familiar with Chrome cast . but I do have a roku box. When I got it , I thought roku would replace my DTV, but was mistaken. If I wanted to wait 6-9 months on popular shows to be free it would replace DTV . Unfortunately, if you want to stay current , you must buy those episodes . Those cost avg. $2-3 @ episode. That adds up over a period of time. My DTV cost me $64 @ monthly for 2 HD DVR's . I get all the major channels , FX, AMC , USA , TNT , SyFy , Disc, Tbs , BBC, Pursuit, Spike, Espn , Espn 2 , Velocity and my local channels.

Chromecast will allow you to mirror your tab to it, but that's really not the intended use. It's intended to stream content straight from the internet and play it.

What kinds of streaming are you doing? I assume Netflix, hulu?

For me to use plex I had to upgrade my pc to win 7 or 8 to have a media server. Never heard of Sickbeard. I will look into it.

Xbmc doesn't transcode the video and therefore won't play natively. Plex transcodes video and plays on plex fine. You should be aware that only plex pass (premium) members have access to chromecast playing at the moment. The general public will have that feature in a few weeks/months.
