No Sound

Alright computer people, I need a little help.

My laptop just all of a sudden stopped playing any sounds. If I right click on volume and select volume control options the box is checked for all devices currently playing sound.

Thinking it may could be a driver issue. Which I tried to download, but not sure I did it right.

Running a Lenovo R61 with Windows 7

The speaker wires could have been disconnected or broken.

Do you have the mute button on?... the one on the keyboard.

The speakers could be bad.

Mute button doesn't do anything, so unless it's broken that's not it.

On a serious note it could be the sound card that is integrated into the mother board. If that's the case it would cost more to fix it than its worth more than likely. Go into control panel and go to the master volume and make sure no other program muted the volume that way. Sometimes it can be muted there even when the mute button is off. and if you have external speakers plugged in unplug them and use the speaker in the laptop or use a pair of head phones to test the port. that port for the headphones is on the same card so it should give you some indication if the card on the motherboard is bad.

Reboot. If that don't fix it.

Right click the sound icon (speaker) in system tray, choose Playback devices. Have something playing like Pandora, you should see sound bars. Right click speakers, select Set as Default Device.

To update driver, still in the same 'Sound' area, double click the Speakers, select Properties button, Driver tab, and hit Update Driver. Search automatically.

Not sure what I did, but they are working now.


May have been a button sticking or something.
