I killed one 8 years ago that was right at 5' and that was the biggest I have ever seen or heard of. Must have been using toddler feet to measure that 'un.

How far apart are the teeth on a standard front end loader?
That ought to give us some sort of scale.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

I killed a cottonmouth in my front yard last Sunday that measured 3'6" inches. Made me very uncomfortable since my 16 month old was out playing 10 minutes before I saw it. Anyways, it peeked my interest as to what the record size was, so I looked it up. I found this same picture in a different article. The article I found came with someone who disagrees with the measurements of this snake. I'm familiar enough with snakes to ID any that are common to this area, but no expert by any means. Here's the article I found disagreeing with the size....
