In South Carolina they're dikes. Never heard a soul from around here call 'em a "levy". Not once.

Photos don't do it justice. The carriage house is a shrine to a family's way of life.

The Pitt's have birds that can't be seen in a museum. Pat has more Blue Phase Ross' geese mounted than any major U.S. museum..

He has Stellar's, Emperor and Spectacled Eiders there in his house too.... those are among the best birds he has...

Homeo, to say I'm jealous that you've had the opportunity to get to know that man personally, hunt with him, etc. would be a complete understatement. He's nothing short of a living legend. It really is cool as hell that you can say that he's a fellow friend and hunting partner. Sometimes, I guess I do envy Citadel guys

He's down to earth as all gets. He'd take the shirt off his back if you needed it. He's truly Good people.

Jamie, if you can get away one weekend in the fall/winter and our schedules line up ...come out and hunt. It's been way long overdue anyway.

One last memory, ( I will keep the rest for me)..

Pat was held in high regard by most of his cronies... he is not an easy many to "love" for most. He is intense. Someone once said he was part duck..

To prove it, he chopped the head off a Greenhead and stuck in his his zipper and posed as if he were urinating... Someone took a photo..

A few years back my friend Shep had moved to Cabot and needed a place to hunt. Pat took him on and they hit it off. He got a nickname like most new members - his is "Georgia" or "Big Cracker"..

For Christmas Stephen and I took a photo of us with Greenhead peckers sticking out of our trousers. We framed it and wrapped it in some festive Christmas paper... Pat like to have died laughing. We also gave him a case of his favorite Pinot Noir from Oregon. I am certain he enjoyed the wine more.

We'll see what we can get worked out for sure. If for some reason it doesn't work out this year, we'll plan out a hunt for next year.

    Damn fine stuff, nitro.
“… duckhunting stands alone as an outdoor discipline. It has a tang and spirit shared by no other sport—a philosophy compounded of sleet, the winnow of unseen wings, and the reeks of marsh mud and wet wool. No other sport has so many theories, legends, casehardened disciples and treasured memories.”
    --John Madson, The Mallard, 1960

When shovelers or other "non working ducks" fly by, he stands up and yells, "food stamps, govt cheese, free phones" and all kinda other crap..

And prior to him talking trash about my call, about 5 mallards just maple leafed out of the stratosphere in response to it..

Don't ever wear your feelings on your shoulder around him..

    Really great dude..
