'84 merc 4.5hp runs hot

Started my little merc up in a bucket this evening just to let it run and at idle everything is fine but anything above idle it pees scalding hot water and starts to heat up. Should I just not get it above idle in the drum or do I have bigger issues?

I don't know about little motors, but most of the hot water discharges out of the foot. The piss hole is more or less a courtesy visual that the water pump is working.

I would put the motor on a boat and try it in the water. If it is only hot when you pour the coals to it I think you are ok.
