    Default Rewind starter

I'm looking for a rewind starter for a 1997 Evinrude 25 HP (E25REUM). Found one on Short's Marine website and others for about $600. Haven't found any on ebay. Y'all know of anywhere else online to look? I don't care if it's new, just in decent condition. Thanks for the help.

$600! Wow! May want to look at rebuilding the thing! What's it doing? From the diagram, it looks like a fairly simple mechanism. It may a fairly simple fix...

Need parts numbered (via diagram) 5 (x1), 10 (x4) ,11 (x2), 13 (x2) to rebuild, and that's best guess. Maybe 200$ for the rebuild plus a lot of time. It's froze up and main assy has broken metal. Using paracord right now and removing cover to start. It would just be nice to find another.

Your existing one is broken? There is a business in Sumter that could rebuild your starter as long as your housing isn't messed up. I'm guessing the price would be less then $200.

My bad , I thought you were looking for a rebuilt starter motor. I would call around and try and find a old junk motor.

The knot came undone on the "new" starter this weekend, good thing I am a pro starting it with a string. Anyone have any experience puting one back together?

I kept turning it counter clockwise until it was super tight, then was going to feed the rope back in. It "clicked" and now turning it doesn't make any resistance. Is this what the spring should look like inside..? If so what on the left catches to what on the right to force the rope back in? Thanks for help

mrgreen helped me with this. You don't turn the wheel, but take apart and wind the rope first (direction matters). Replacing the coil wasn't that bad. Once you get coil wound inside, bend the end so it lines up with knob on other wheel.
