    Default 6-13-13 10'2"

We decided to try to test our luck last night with all the bad weather around and see if we could snag a lizard. We had a few shots at different gators last night, and right as we were about to call it a night around 1:00 due to the lightning getting close and everyone was tired, this old girl popped up (I am trusting my weird hunting buddy, White Quaker, who did the gender test on this one) and we got a hook in her.

I had my other buddy and his 23 y.o. son on the boat with us and they wanted to catch one. Dad casted and handed off to the son when she was hooked. Me and Wq didnt think the gator was that big, 8' tops. WQ dropped a hand line on her when we got directly over the top of it, and I was amazed when I saw a foot. This was a decent sized gator. We put another hand line in her and I got to good shots to the head with the .44 bangstick, and that was it. It never did rain on us.

It was fun to see how excited my friend and his son were. They have taught me a bunch about shrimping and saltwater fishing here, so it was cool to put them on a hunt that they have never done and succeed.

    She was 10'2".

It's not too hard to get permits for private land out of season.

    In fact, it's too easy.

Easy Turbo, you're gonna hurt all these know-it-all's feelings off the bat.

My "It's too easy" comment was not meant to say that private land kills are gonna eradicate the gators in SC.

It was meant to say, "If you've got private land in SC, you can kill the shit out of them anytime you want on your land."

The public gator season in SC was never meant to really control numbers. It was meant to harass gators and push them back to where the average joe doesn't see 20 in a day. Out of sight, out of mind.

I've got no problem with private land owners killing every gator they see. It's not going to hurt the thriving population that we have.

It's funny you say that because I posted the same thing and then edited my comment to see what you were going to say first. All the landowners along the big rivers down here have basically free run of killing gators, yet it's almost impossible to get drawn on public hunts. Each year we have killed a 10+ footer and some 8-9' gators and new ones come in and fill the void. There is a gator in our ponds right now that is easily 12'. He is huge and skittish. He showed up last year after we killed a 10'4".

I hate an alligator and take great pleasure in killing the shit out of them.

Good luck with that 12 footer. That's too much like work to me.

You should call one of those Swamp People fellers to come up and shoot it from a moving boat, freehand at 200 yards with a .22 or that RJ dude with his .17hmr. Probably take 10 minutes and weigh in somewhere around 3 tons. It'll have 5 full grown deer, 3 dogs and 10 people in its gullet.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

The guys on the boat last night wanted to drag that gator in the boat. I told them to have at it. These are two 6'4, 250# men. They couldn't budge that thing, and it was only 300-350lbs.

One of them said after trying "it looks much easier on tv."

I had one 12'er that had a chunk missing at the end of his tail that rode beside the boat for 12 miles.

It took another 5 hours to get him from the water to the boat.

Once at his disrobing facility, it took all an 8n John Deere's front end loader had to get him out of the boat.

Fuck those lizards and all the work they are.
