    Default It's time!

    Inspired by High Strung.

Rebel Yell and I worked our asses off Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday. We planted and sprayed sunflowers and bennie in two small dove fields.
We still have two fields to plat. One of which will be strips along an irrigated corn field, which should be easy. The other will need a good bit of work and currently has a swine issue...

Our original field was easy, plow a few time and plant on... This field is about 5 acres 115'x 1850' swath with a power line running the entire length. ag on both sides. Last year the southern side (ours) was peanuts, and to the north was cotton. We are holding and feeding about 300 birds here with the old peanuts that are still in the field. This year this field will be cotton and the other corn or soybeans i suspect (different property & farmer). As an added bonus, about 2/3 of this dove strip s irrigated by the neighbors pivot...

The other field has been fallow for a number of years. We have spent a good bit of time this winter getting it ready to plant. Burned it off, pushed up 100,s of small oaks, sweetgums, and pine, shagged sticks and roots. Plowed it, plowed it again, chisel plowed it, and plowed again. Task let include erect a false power line. We have the pole, just need to find some wire. Any ideas on something cheap and easily obtained for the birds to light on? Need approximately 700 ft?

Now if we can keep the deers backed off well be just fine. Hope it don't dry up on us now...

I will try to keep this thread running of the progress.

you aint did a dawg gon thang until ya STAND UP IN IT!- Theodis Ealey

I am sunburnt and my back is still sore from the tractor beatdown Saturday and Sunday. Disked, dragged out, and planted about 5.5 acres in the field behind the house. 42 rows of Mycogen Clearfield flowers flanked by 34 rows (68 total) on either side of RR Corn. All done with my little 38 hp JD and a borrwed 2-row set of MF 39 planters.

Left the edges and strips between the crops for BT Millet, after the postemergent spraying is complete.

Still have to plant several terraces in flowers between the corn and wheat at the farm.

Need to get the sprayer calibrated and ready to go, and a few hundred pounds of Millorganite over top of the sunflowersto keep the deers at bay for a bit.

Volunteer peanuts. I don't know of any herbicide to use. May cultivate. Or figure out how to use to our advantage somehow. Whenever the farmer does pnuts in this field, the doves get thick late season after harvest

edit: other than the volunteer peanuts, there aint a weed to be found, this is shot of the benne rows

The older I get, the more anal retentive I get. I rigged us up some row markers for this planter. The rows I did were "fairly" straight. The ones that jarret80's personal assistant did were not so straight. I scolded him today. He is to transplant them all by hand into straighter rows. I need to borrow a transit from one of yall surveyor types

custom spreader rig I made for "The Manse Jolly". Perfect for kern on a long shooting lane or for pelletized dookey on sunflowers. Second application in of milorganite in 2 weeks went on today. Very few deerah track seen, did not notice any damage

This other field has just a little bit of bermuda in it (jarret80's crooked ass rows). A little more growing and the Poast plus oughta knock it back. Most of it we kilt right after planting.

edit: I wish we had some before shots of this field before we went to work on it.....like fro said, it was fallow and we got a lot of sweat equity in thissun.
